Jellyfish are weird/amazing/interesting.

GUYS.

IMMORTAL JELLYFISH!

The species is originally from the Caribbean but has spread all over the world.[5] T. nutricula are found in temperate to tropical regions in all of the world's oceans.[4] Turritopsis is believed to be spreading across the world as ships are discharging ballast water in ports.[4] Since the species is immortal, the number of individuals is spiking. "We are looking at a worldwide silent invasion" said Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute scientist Dr. Maria Miglietta.[6]

OH DEAR....

It blows my mind that there's a possibility there's a jellyfish that could've waved to Columbus, and chilled out in the water hundreds of years before that. O_O!!!!I realize this is unlikely because it probably would've been eaten in that time but SERIOUSLY. IT'S IMMORTAL!!!

Also, apparently people as in, those wacky Asians eat jellyfish. It looks like tapeworm.

I'm such a dweeb, but c'mon, the world is amazing |:

Practice was good tonight, I feel like I was processing and learning things, as well as fighting decent/attempting to implement things I'm learning. Also, axe is fun. Am biffed up tho, took a shot to my shoulderblade which has never happened before and that stung quite a bit (am unarmored there.) Thumb is also fantastically bruised due to gauntlet malfunction. But still, good stuff.

Edit:
To add to my WTF THE WORLD IS NEATO thing, they made another verse to the discovery channel videos. And it has Optimus Prime in it. OOOMG :D

Baaw, they're now accepting applications to the ISS in Oslo for this summer. I wish I was going again. I want to spend every summer there, I miss Norway. T^T It's such a wonderful country (but I don't think I could live there, I'm so painfully American... I'd miss home too much. And learning language is almost impossible for me, so living in a place where English is a second language would make me REALLY die. *sigh*) And on top of being a win place, the program itself is amazing. SHOULD BE MANDATORY, FERREALS. Human training: Everyone in the world is pretty much like you, but still enough different to be interesting. Win.

I WANNA GO BAAACK. Someday, it will happen. Just not this summer.

Also, I miss people from the ISS. ESPECIALLY [info]kate1809. OUR ADVENTURES SHALL LIVE FOREVER.

I have like 30 tabs open on Iraqi immigrants/immigration law for my research paper for GSJ, and this is after last week's extensive researching on Middle Eastern metal/punk for shits and giggles.

The CIA is going to be all over my ass >__>; I'M NEVER GOING TO BE ALLOWED INTO CANADA THIS WINTER D: Passport. Frozen.

On that note I am freaking pumped for this cd, some of the bands are awesome sounding, Orphaned Land and The Kominas in particular (whose cd you can torrent here, at their request. Also am glad to see Acrassicauda on there, they were the band followed in the documentary Heavy Metal Baghdad.

I love sampler cds so hard.

And the proceeds go to a good cause. Yaaay <3

.... HI GOVERNMENT. I'M JUST A WAR NERD WHO LIKES HOW MIDDLE EASTERN MUSIC SOUNDS TO BOOT, DON'T WORRY.

Glad the rough draft of that fucking paper is done tho, and I've managed to find something mildly interesting. I had a mini breakdown over it last night, luckily I have an awesome Anna who sends me articles and calm and help when I am freaking out |: <3 so much love.

VIKINGS AND DRAGONS VIKINGS AND DRAGONS.*

*I promise here and now to try not to comment on the periodness, it is a dreamworks animated film that has VIKINGS AND DRAGONS!!!! My friends and associates will probably be happy with me to be shutting up about such things. Unless they're the same kind of dorks as me, then it's probably ok.

Next semesters schedule, if anyone is interested:

Philosophy and Human life - Maloney 9:35-10:40 MWF
Seminar: Writing to Delight, Incite, and Pay the Rent - Herzberg 9:55-11:35 TR
Madness, Psychiatry, and Mental Health - A history - Schmit 6:00-9:15 R
Relaxation - TR 1:30-3:10, starting in March.

Found that history of madness one randomly, and it sounded way interesting. Don't know the prof, I'm thinking he must be a new adjunct? Any ideas? Hopefully he's ok, it's a cool topic. I'm also excited for seminar. I'm so excited to have classes I'll like again. The only downside is the timing is the exact same as this semester, morning heavy doesn't thrill me.

Also, am taking relaxation instead of self defense for gym under the hope that it'll teach me calm-the-fuck-down skills. I need them. I fail at coping.

Ozy's lungs aren't any better, and while they can't tell for sure without biopsy (which my mom is not opting to do because it involves transporting him to St. Cloud/Minneapolis for expensive surgery to probably confirm something we can't afford to treat anyway,) the vet is fairly certain it's lung cancer. They're keeping him on steroids for a few more weeks to keep him comfortable.

Fuck.

In other news, it still takes me an hour to tell even my roommates something as simple as "lol, I'm not ok, my cat's gonna die. Can I have a hug?" Luckily [info]dark_wolfbane is perceptive/not socially dur like the rest of us. :\

I hate being so far away from people who know how to really deal with me when upset. All two of them.

New plan:

1. Drop out of college
2. Rock the accordian
3. ?
4. PROFIT!!!!!

... I don't even like Turisas very much (though that song is fun and seriously Stuck In My Head,) but they always looks like they're having so much darn fun.

Ozy is at home now. On prednizone and antibiotics, and still wheezy sick, and has another appointment later this week. But I'm hoping for the best, and assuming he must be feeling a little better since he's at home. They still don't know what's wrong. But considering yesterday it wasn't certain if he'd make it thru the night, I'm much calmer and hopeful now... Now I get to save up so I can help pay for vet bills. Yeehaw.

Spent all night making armor with Edwin and Libby. Assuming all bits work correctly and don't magically malfunction somehow, I can give the loaner gear back and it will all be my own! (:! Yaay. Not only do I have all the necessaries but butt flaps attached and vambraces. Eee. The bruises are fun to show off and stuff, but uh, it was getting too painful. And vambraces mean, not only do I not have to make my elbows tight enough to cut off blood flow to stay up, but...

GREAT WEAPONS!!!

Aarrright.

Have I mentioned that all the freaking help I've gotten in the SCA from many many super awesome people has made me want to be a better person?

Srsly.

Also, the novelty of wax hardening leather is going to take a while to wear off I think. That is insanely cool for whatever reason.

I need more sleep, I'm running on empty.

I'm going to go crank up our heater and go to sleep. Night.

Sooo I'm apparently feeling a bit MANIC today, I did two art pieces. Finished coloring that zombie picture, and as a result of having Bedlam Boys stuck in my head all freakin' day, drew up something else creepy. At least it's Halloweenish so I can pretend to have an excuse for this insanity. And it's no worse than the boyslash, amirite?

I'm going to link to them, because the transparency on my lj screws up the coloring.
The first one is that Yuri Zombie picture I did. You decide if guts are worksafe or not.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/nuclear_haru/yuri-zombie.jpg
Wooo! This is disgusting!!!

This one is probably safe for work, it's just weird.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/nuclear_haru/bedlam.jpg

This is creepy! The story behind this in case you have no idea what I'm babbling about with Bedlam Boys, it's an English folk song from 1618.

Was listening to this on repeat while drawing above mentioned thingy. The lyrics are friggin' creepy in case you can't make it out over the sexy. accent. Muuuaah Irish/Scottish accents. <3 *goo*

I'm really pleased with how this came out. Apparently the key for me to be good at art is just not do it for two years and then come back. Pffft.

Also, am on windows 7 again. Have Cisco, but no McAfee. Wat? St. Kate's r fail at consistence.

WIIIN!!! I just get this image of Nathan Fillion wearing it all the time and calling himself Captain Reynolds. Also, I'm aware xkcd beat me to it.

I feel like I fought my butt off at practice. I literally fought until I could not fight anymore (my arms REFUSED to do anything in my last bout.) Sweet. Go me.

I have a weird inner thigh armor bite that I don't know how it happened, and my right arm is lumpy and bruised on all sides. Vambraces get. There's one right where my arm rests on the desk. Fail.

Also, St. Kate's is a bastard, I got windows 7 up and running and was gleefully surfing the net without their McAfee/Cisco Clean Access bullshit, and then while on the last ten minutes of downloading open office (which was taking 3 freaking hours for whatever reason) it went "HAAAAH GOTCHA!!!" killed the connection, and was like "LOLOL DOWNLOAD CISCO CLEAN ACCESS AGENT Y/Y?" and then promptly ignored it after I installed it. Haven't had time to fuck around with it more to fix it. Argh. NERD RAGE.

New windows is installed, putting new stuff on. So far it's pretty spiffy and behaving well. It's a whole new beast tho, I don't know how anything on here works. The desktop customization is pretty damn awesome tho. I'll maybe write up more when I play with it some more. Definitely seems worth the 50 bucks I paid to get it tho.

Anyone who is a student (probably US only, I'm not sure, sorry guys) and interested in picking up Windows 7, Microsoft has a student deal where you can get it for $29.99 (digital download version. It's like 15.00 more if you want the disc shipped to you, which I went for because I do not like not having physical copy.)

http://www.win741.com/

So yep. Thought I'd share since I'm now positive the deal isn't a fraud.

My brother drives me crazy and worries me. He just called me, obviously drunk. He came down to the cities to visit with some friends who it sounds like he only kinda knows. When I asked him what he had been drinknig, he was like "LOL I dunno, they mixed it for me and all I know is I can't move my head too fast."

Stupid stupid stupid.

Anyway, I've been drawing more lately, which makes me happy. What I've been drawing is nonsense and downright HORRIBLE, but oh well. NSFW under the cut, unless you work at a gay porn warehouse or something.

Zombie Yuri, and horrible, horrible Yu-Gi-Oh slash. )

Movie roundup time, just a couple this time around....

First off:
NEW TOY STORY TRAILER!!!^__^ I'd be wary of Toy Story 3, except Pixar is generally pretty good, and this don't look bad.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Meh. I'm not so hyped for this movie, I enjoyed the first one, but really, it was William Dafoe's character that made it for me, and he's not in this one. That said, Norman Reedus with an Irish accent is. Sdgjlksghjksghjksghjsk <3 Hot.

Possible hammerings out for my SCA persona. Dunno how good or plausible this is. It's obviously very, very unlikely, but no one in the SCA tends to play by "Likely" because likely is a peasant with twelve kids, who is half starved and dies of diarrhea or something.

Ulfhildr was born 823, on the Sognefjord in western Norway. (Possibly the Laerdal valley?) She was born into the family of a wealthy farmer/raider; her father a retired raider who currently acted as a skald. Much to the dismay of Ulfhildr's mother, she was a relentless tomboy, and her father allowed her to wrestle, play-fight and play sports with her numerous brothers and male cousins. She loved listening to her dad's battle-poems, and especially demanded stories with valkyries. When she came of marriageable age however, her father and mother cracked down attempting to shape her into a proper wife to be granted to a local jarl. Enraged and disgusted at the idea, 14-year-old Ulfhildr bound her chest, stole her brother's clothes, her father's helmet and ax and ran away to another settlement. She managed to make her way down the Sognefjord to a settlement on the coast. There she enlisted in a Viking crew and spent the next few years raiding England and Ireland. She lived in the household of one of her fellow raiders, all the while pretending to be male; a slightly odd rather unfriendly one at that in order to hide herself. She became known as Ulf Þegjandi, Ulf the silent, as she feared if she talked too much it would give her gender away. Despite her aloof nature, this arrangement worked for years as she was a decent raider and trustworthy clan member who worked hard on the farmstead. She realized however that she could not keep up the sham of being male forever, and when questions about when she would find a wife started coming up too often and too earnestly, among other suspicions, she emigrated to the new settlement of Dublin in 842.

In Dublin she resumed living as a woman, but passed herself off as a childless widow, ensuring she'd have enough power to keep the wealth she had amassed while raiding and most of the freedoms she was accustomed to. While in Ireland, she fell in love with a divorced Irish woman. The two lived together, most likely seen by the rest of the settlement as sad, lonely, man-less women forced to cohabit in order to take care of the household. (lol) The two lived quite happily together until in one last cross dressing stint, Ulfhildr was slain in battle defending Dublin against Danish Vikings in 852.

Sooo there are probably problems in this that I'm not thinking of that I'll need to further hammer out. For one, I want to get a better idea of where Ulfhildr was originally from. There's only a few viking "towns" in Norway at this time, the Laerdal valley is close-ish to Kaupanger, and since most of Viking age Norway was small farm settlements, it seems plausible that the valley would've had farms there, even if there's no hard evidence found there or described there that I've found. I would just say "along the Sognefjord" and be vague, but considering it's the second largest fjord in the world, that's REALLY REALLY vague. d: I'm also unsure if two women would've been able to get away with the arrangement in Ireland like that. It seems logical, running a farm alone would've been freaking hard, and people adopted into other families constantly. As long as there wasn't actual suspicion or acknowledgement of ZOMGGAY, it seems to make sense, especially since viking widows didn't do too horribly for themselves, nor Irish divorcees I think? The childless thing could be tricksy tho. That's more [info]hsaviniens turf. Granted she's in a different century.

It's weird to think she died when 29, and that was not a ridiculously early age to die at |: It's slightly early for a woman, but half of men died by 30, and since that number is from battle, her hi I'm going to fight mentality will do it.

YEAH. WOO. I DUNNO. AT WORK. I'M SO TIRED D:

Went and saw the Evangelion rebuild movie at the mall of america theaters. Cool seeing Evangelion in theaters, but overall I can't say I'm digging the rebuild. Pacing is much too fast, doesn't give the subtle character development I like, especially not for my beloved side characters. That said, it totally gave me a hankering for Maya/Ritsuko slash, which like every other fandom I attempt to follow, there's nearly none of... *sigh*

This one is good, and I feel bad because I can't figure out who wrote it since I can't figure out how to locate it on the site...

This one is even better, because the characterization is spot on for the most part. Unfortunately, that means it's only kind of fluffy, and lots of angsty, since Ritsuko/Maya very obviously cannot end happily when you figure in how the series goes.

Too bad, I could use happy fluffy at the moment. Blah.
